Armatrix SmartGun disables itself so you don't have to http://www.gizmag.com/armatrix-wrist...andguns/14044/
This is a fucking brilliant idea. Now all I gotta do is bring a jamming device that can interfere with whatever wireless signal they're using (bluetooth? wifi? doesn't matter...don't need to decrypt it, just jam it) and...piggy can't shoot back. Fucking. Retarded. 7 Comments: Colonel Lance posted the following:
For instance the gun could have no automatic lock by itself, it could be the watch alone. So if you jam the watch then all you're doing is stopping the gun from locking which isn't too bad, since the gun should already be activated because the cop should do that before they even leave the station. However there still are plenty of risks. Like if the code is cracked then a criminal could just have a device that hacks the watch and makes it send the disable signal. Or plenty of other things, but still my point is that a jamming device could easily be countered. Technology is wonderful and terrible at the same time. Onionpaste posted the following: Lance, that would make sense, except how would the watch send a disable signal over ever-increasing distances? Also, Once the authentication procedure has been completed the weapon’s integrated locking electronics and actuators unlock the weapon automatically when it is within a predefined distance of the watch. In this way even if the gun is lost in a scuffle, it will be useless if it is not close enough to the watch. Also, if the watch is ripped off or removed, both the watch transponder and weapon are deactivated immediately. Part 1 indicates that it UNLOCKS when it gets close, which would imply that the watch sends an unlocking signal. 2 is the same kind of thing. 3 is really where the evidence is that it sends an unlock signal, since it says the transponder is deactivated, which locks the weapon, meaning that the watch sends an unlock signal. IMO, this would cause more problems than it would solve. Yes, officers get shot by their own weapons, but I think implementing this would create even more deaths from technological failure resulting in lack of a firearm against an armed criminal. Txhark posted the following: Just make it like a tred mill. Have a little cord that attaches from the watch to a slot in the gun and when the the little card gets pulled out of the gun the gun locks. Then the watch would be useless except for telling time and the gun would basically be normal except for the annoying little card you would have to slip in and out of it every now and then. Same concept just a little more retarded. DranoK posted the following:
If cops can't keep control over their own damned weapons maybe they shouldn't be fucking cops.

That's when the officer pulls out his concealed Glock 27 an- OH GOD HE'S BEEN SHOT / STABBED / WHATEVER.
Not to mention it is ugly as fuck. I like Glock because they're moving away from stupid stuff like this, and are actually making guns EASIER to shoot, thus requiring less thought (IE, taking off the external safety, making it one less thing to worry about when you're getting shot at).
