In reality, most of us are laughing our asses off at them. In the best case scenario--if draconian filters were effective and widespread--the only possible result would be a mass increase in the use of encryption and tunneling, making the situation (from the authority's point of view) even worse than before. Their only possible response would be to relent or tighten the clamp even more by making encryption illegal. This is bound to succeed. Idiots.
