DranoK's Renkei Calculator
[ Version 3.0 ]

Return to DranoK's Skillchain Calculator

What is a "renkei"?
Renkei is the Japanese terminology for "Skill Chains". Skillchains are combinations of melee weapon skills that, when timed correctly (and used in the correct order) will erupt with an explosion of additional damage.

I tried the calculator but got an error that said, "TOO MANY LOOPS PROCESSED!" What does this mean?
In order to prevent the flooding of this server, I need to keep the number of recursive loops down. In some cases there are just so many damned skillchain possibilities that calculating every last one would take several seconds. Using only six players, assuming each has a skill of 250, I've got the result page to take over 30 seconds to generate and be around 10MB in size! That's a lot of combinations! To prevent this, I simply make the program stall after 1500 recursive loops. If you would like the perl script and datafiles to run your own reports (ZERO support from me), drop me a line via the Contact link and I'll mail you these sources.

Why don't you support level 3 skillchains?
Because I don't care that much. By the time you have 225 skill in a weapon, I'm not convinced this calculator would even help you. A diverse group all with skills of around 100 make this chart somewhat difficult to use. In the end, there are just TOO MANY enumerations to concisely display without using abstractions. As this is an app whose entire purpose is enumeration, its use will diminish over time except as a tool to learn more about skillchains. Maybe it will be useful for reference at higher levels, I don't know yet. Long point short (too late, I know), this tool was designed for newbies just learning skillchains. I don't really care at the moment if it helps the ubers.

What do the fruit-loop colors mean?
The following table is the key for the color codes used by the calculator:

CategoryColorExample
Player NamesBoldSuteneka
Weapon SkillsPurpleFast Blade
Skillchain NamesGreenFusion
Skillchain ElementalsBlue(Fire)
Skillchain LevelTeal[Level 2]

What do you mean by "Skillchain Elemental"?
All skillchains are of a specific elemental type. This is useful to know for two reasons. First, casters can time their elemental spells correctly and "Magic Burst" alongside a successful skillchain. For example, "Fusion" is of the fire elemental, so mages would cast a fire-based spell in order to burst. In addition, most mobs have an elemental weakness, so it is good to choose a skillchain that exploits this knowledge.

What do you mean by "Skillchain Level"?
All skillchains are either level 1 or level 2. Actually, this isn't quite true; some skillchains are level 3. Level 1 skillchains are weaker than level 2, but can be chained together. For example, of A -> B, and B -> C, and both are level 1, then you can go A -> B -> C. Likewise, if B -> C is a level 2, but A -> B is level 1, you can still go A -> B -> C. However, if A -> B were level 2 then you would need to go A -> B then a new B -> C. You can only chain level 1 skillchains together.

But Samurai can do self-skillchains! How come I can't find any of these combos?
Because the logic my perl script uses indicates that one person can only perform one action per skillchain. Besides, if you're a samarai, this kind of self-skillchain is your bread-and-butter. I'd hope you don't need a silly perl script telling you what to do!

What is the literal translation of "renkei"?
There are two common definitions. One is "co-operation", while the other is "connection" or "linking".

What is your character's name?
I am Suteneka. I can be found on the Caitsith world.
